Why do we wear green on St. Patrick’s Day?

There are multiple reasons that people wear green to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. One reason wearing green was popularized was that Irish immigrants believed that wearing green made them invisible to leprechauns. Leprechauns can’t see green, so if you wear green they can’t pinch you. Another reason is to symbolize Irish nationalism. When Ireland and Britain separated, Irish people wanted to separate themselves from Britain and the color blue. So, they decided to wear green, which caused green to become a symbol of rebellion in Ireland. One more reason that people traditionally wear green is to symbolize the shamrock. Some people believe the shamrock represents the Holy Trinity, so they wear green to pay tribute to the religious aspect. So, if you don’t want a random stranger to pinch you this St. Patrick’s Day, you should wear green.
